Your Support = Their Lifeline: $5,000 Donated to Thai Political Prisoners via Freedom Bridge
With your contribution, Engage Thailand has donated $5,000 to our partner Freedom Bridge last month. Freedom Bridge is a Thailand-based organization that provides support to incarcerated Thai individuals indicted or convicted in cases related to freedom of expression or assembly.
“Your generous support for our [work] has been a lifeline, offering not just material aid, but also a profound sense of hope and dignity to those facing injustice.”
Freedom Bridge has shared with us the details of the tangible impact your contribution has made in the last month:
Provided 5,000 Baht in monthly cash support to 30 detainees, ensuring they could afford basic necessities like food and toiletries in prison.
Offered daily food support to 18 detainees, addressing their immediate and critical nutritional needs.
Extended emergency aid to 5 families whose lives have been thrown into turmoil by the imprisonment of a loved one.
Supported 4 children of political prisoners, helping them stay in university and continue their education.
Reunited Kallaya, a young political prisoner, with her family. Held in a prison far from her home, we were able to fund her only family visit for the entire year.
Supported Joy upon her release with cash, communications, and temporary accommodation as she prepared to return home to her family.
Joy smiling of joy upon her release.
This is not the end of our work.
As of early August, 50 political prisoners remain detained in Thailand. Your continued support is essential to Freedom Bridge’s efforts to provide aids to political prisoners who have no immediate prospect of release.
Many political prisoners face charges under the lèse majesté law (Section 112). As Engage Thailand has reported via our newsletter, the Amnesty Bills recently approved by the parliament does not cover lèse majesté charges. We maintain that without including the lèse majesté law, selective amnesty will not lead to genuine reconciliation or justice.
While justice fails, it is you who can help Freedom Bridge send a powerful message to political prisoners that they are not forgotten. Your support upholds their dignity, helps hold their families together, and ensures that the pursuit of justice does not mean the end of a life.
